The Michigan Theater is pleased to once again recognize
the contributions to our country by members of the U.S.
military. Throughout Memorial Day Weekend - Friday,
May 23 through Monday, May 26 - both military veterans
and active personnel will be admitted FREE to all film screenings
at the Michigan Theater.
In addition, veterans are eligible for a discount price
of $6.75 per ticket all year round.
The films showing Memorial Day Weekend include the highly
anticipated new film, “THEN SHE FOUND ME,” the
directorial debut for actress Helen Hunt. She also stars
in the film, along with Matthew Broderick, Colin Firth and
Bette Midler. Adapted from Elinor Lipman's novel of the
same name, it is a touching story of schoolteacher and her
very unlikely path towards personal fulfillment, following
the collapse of her marriage and the death of her mother.
The film opens May 23 and runs through May 29. (Rated R)
Memorial Day also brings “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,”
a special double feature of baseball-themed movies designed
with veterans and their families in mind: “FIELD OF
DREAMS,” starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones
(1989, rated PG) and “IT HAPPENS EVERY SPRING,”
starring Ray Milland and Ed Begley (1949, not rated). The
baseball theme pervades with Cracker Jacks and popcorn vendors,
beer specials, live organ music and vintage Detroit Tigers
World Series highlights during the intermission between
films. Beer can be consumed by Theater members in our Grand
Foyer area only and cannot be brought into the theater.
This program runs on Monday, May 26 only.
For show times and a complete schedule, please visit the
Theater’s website at www.michtheater.org.
This program is made possible by a generous grant from the
Merton & Regina Allen Memorial Fund. The primary purpose
of the fund, established through the Ann Arbor Area Community
Foundation, is “to support programming, events and
special initiatives for United Sates Armed Forces veterans,
with preference to disabled veterans and those who served
in action, at the Michigan Theater (a Code Section 501(c)(3)
organization).”
