Michael Moore is releasing his new film Slacker Uprising
online and for free, but the world premiere will take place
the old-fashioned way: in an Ann Arbor movie palace as part
of the University of Michigan School of Art & Design’s
Penny W. Stamps Distinguished Visitors Series.
It happens on Thursday, September 18 at the historic Michigan
Theater, which seats 1,700. Admission is free and first-come,
first-served. Doors open at 4 p.m. Following a 5:10 pm Stamps
Series talk by Moore, the film gets under way at 6:20 pm.
Slacker Uprising traces Michael Moore’s 62-city tour
of the swing states during the 2004 Presidential election
and records the thrilling – and frightening –
response he received across the country. It included
a jam-packed and raucous event at the University of Michigan
in October of 2004. Moore got the idea for the Michigan
world premiere screening after he had been invited to UM
this past summer by the School of Art & Design Stamps
Series to make a presentation on his work.
For nearly a decade, the UM School of Art & Design’s
Penny W. Stamps Distinguished Visitor’s Series has
brought creative thinkers and makers to Ann Arbor to engage
with students, faculty, staff and the larger University
and Ann Arbor communities.
